JD Fields Delivers 60” Monopiles to Port of Houston Project, Supporting America’s Busiest Port by Tonnage

Strengthening a Critical Node in U.S. Maritime Infrastructure
The Port of Houston is not just a regional hub—it’s the busiest port in the United States by total tonnage, handling over 275 million short tons of cargo in 2023, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. As a gateway for both domestic and international commerce, its operations are vital to the economy of Texas, the Gulf Coast, and the entire nation.
JD Fields & Company, Inc. is proud to support this essential maritime engine with the delivery of heavy-duty 60-inch monopiles, designed to reinforce infrastructure capacity at the Port and its surrounding terminals.
Project Scope: Marine Foundations
Our recent delivery featured:
- 60-inch monopiles, each 110 feet in length
- Custom-fabricated marine fenders and bollards integrated into the steel structure
- Full-length delivery to Texas City for barge loading at the contractor’s staging site
- Tightly coordinated logistics, including port handling and marine transport
Monopile systems of this scale are typically used for marine terminals, bulkheads, berths, and heavy vessel mooring structures, where load resistance and structural integrity are mission-critical.
By delivering in full-length format, JD Fields ensured minimal field welding and faster installation, reducing downtime and optimizing contractor productivity.
A Commitment to Operational Excellence
Marine infrastructure work demands flawless coordination, from mill to fabrication yard to barge. This project exemplified JD Fields’ ability to:
- Provide fully engineered steel systems tailored to coastal and marine specifications
- Manage complex deliveries and port logistics along the Gulf Coast
- Partner with contractors for on-time, project-ready deployments
- Fabricate integrated components like fenders and bollards, reducing lead times
As the Port of Houston continues to grow in scale and importance, JD Fields remains a reliable partner in strengthening the backbone of U.S. maritime trade.
Engineering the Gulf Coast’s Future—One Pile at a Time
From LNG terminals to port expansions and hurricane-resistant seawalls, the Gulf Coast is undergoing rapid infrastructure investment. JD Fields is proud to support this transformation with custom monopiles, sheet piling, and structural pipe solutions—engineered and delivered with precision.
As stewards of foundational infrastructure, we understand that what lies below the surface is just as important as what stands above it.
