McCoys Creek Restoration - Jacksonville, Florida
%20(1)_small.jpg)
For over a century, McCoys Creek was reshaped, straightened, and confined into a flood-prone channel. The result was chronic flooding, environmental degradation, and a waterway that no longer functioned as nature intended. Now, the city of Jacksonville is reversing that damage, restoring the creek to its natural, meandering path while reinforcing it with modern infrastructure solutions.
A critical component of this transformation is AZ Steel Sheet Piling, supplied by JD Fields & Company, Inc. and installed by JB Coxwell Contracting, Inc. These steel walls form the backbone of the new creek banks, preventing erosion and ensuring long-term resilience against extreme weather. Unlike older methods that heavily relied on concrete barriers, steel sheet piling allows for flexibility and structural integrity, adapting to the natural movement of the waterway while providing essential flood protection.
This project is not just about restoring a waterway. It is a deliberate reconstruction, where engineered solutions work in tandem with the environment to correct past mistakes. Jacksonville is setting a precedent, showing that urban development and ecological responsibility are not opposing forces but essential partners in building a city that can withstand the future.
